News - November 21st 33rd Annual Ski and Skate Sale

Although Friday night was foggy & rainy, the drop-off traffic was brisk from 5:00-8:00 PM.

Saturday morning was cold & windy but the drop-off traffic was steady up to the 10:00 AM cutoff. As usual, the line for the 11:00 AM sale opening was down the walkway and around the corner and along the driveway.

On Saturday, Acton Boy Scout Troop 284 operated the food concession at the main entrance and had quite a variety of hot and cold items to choose from. (Note: the Club sponsors Troop 284)
Sunday’s weather was ideal and although slow, there was a steady trickle of customers all day. As anticipated the pay-out and pick-up period beginning at 3:00 was busy.

All in all, it was a successful event, however gross sales were down about 12% from last year, which was an extremely good year..

Thanks to all Lions as well as the Acton Emergency Management crew for their participation.

Acton Selectman Mr. Peter Ashton spoke to the Lions on what happened to be not only election day, but Mr. Ashton's birthday as well. The Selectman first congratulated the Acton Lion's efforts in the community and then described the various issues currently on the town agenda.

These included the status of the bike path through Acton, the consideration of affordable housing in the Nagog Woods area, the completion of the golf course, the status of the Leary field initiative, and parking at the commuter rail station.

The Lions would like to thank the Selectman for a very informative presentation.

News - September 21st Meeting at Scupper Jacks

Ms Beth Petr spoke to the Acton Lions on September 21, 2004 at Scupper Jacks about her latest project, LTC DAD. As Beth explained, the program started as an effort to support our troups in Iraq by sending candy and other comfort items to the soldiers. It has expanded to include the sending of backpacks filled with school supplies to Iraqi children. Donations have been largely solicited by Beth via email.

LTC DAD is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army and resides in Acton. Beth's interaction with the family led to the initiation of the project.

Beth is active in the community and runs an informal (although very informative) newsletter. To subscribe to the newsletter or make donations to the project please contact Beth at BPetr@att.net.
